The Greatest Show on Earth


Age 13-19 years

A devised theatrical, circus extravaganza featuring songs from the muscial Barnum. The Senior Youth theatre will work with a visiting circus skills practitioner to inspire and devise their own version of Barnum’s Greatest Show on Earth. Will there be strong men, fire breathers or acrobatics ? You shall have to come to the circus to find out but one thing is certain there will be clowns.

 Junior & Senior Youth Theatre

The performance is a joint performance by the Junior & Senior Youth Theatre’s. The Greatest Show on Earth will be performed by the Senior Youth Theatre and the Baker Street Irregualrs by the Junior’s.

The full show’s title is The Greatest Show on Earth featuring the Baker Street Irregulars and shall be performed four times over a Saturday and Sunday. We expect the performance to last just over 2hours.

The two youth theatre groups will rehearse separately and come together in the final week of performance.

The Greatest Show on Earth is part of the BBC Performing Arts project.


Rehearsal start date: Sunday 14th September 11.15am to 2pm

& every Sunday apart from Sunday 26th October

Youth Theatre Applications (and deadlines)

Applications have now closed for this term. Our next term will begin in January 2015 with further details to be released nearer the time.

To apply, please submit a completed application/consent form together with the appropriate cheque payment and return to the Box Office. Applications must be received on or before the first rehearsal date, otherwise your child may not be permitted to attend.

Places are limited, and if over subscribed will be allocated by way of a draw. Applicants who have been unsuccessful will be notified within 24 hours thereafter and any cheques will be returned to unsuccessful applicants. Applicants are to consider themselves having been granted a place if they have not heard otherwise to the contrary within 24 hours of close of application date and therefore simply report to the Stage Door on the first rehearsal date at the appointed time - see above.
Refunds cannot be given once a place on the group has been granted.

Please ensure that you return an application/consent form to The Alnwick Playhouse, Bondgate Without, Alnwick NE66 1PQ, together with your cheque for the correct amount (Mini Group £35; Junior Group £40; Senior Group £40) payable to Alnwick Playhouse. Please use one form per child, and ensure that all details are correct.
